The Batture

25 Walnut Street

For more than 150 years the site at 25 Walnut Street was the Bisso family’s working maritime yard, where ships, barges and retired oil rigs were dismantled. The property was acquired in October 2023 and is being transformed into the first publicly oriented riverfront destination in Uptown New Orleans, opening a stretch of the river that had been closed to the public for generations.

The plan preserves the scale and industrial character of the existing structures while adding new construction around a riverfront lawn. The site already operates with a great lawn, food trucks, a farmers market, co-working space and events. Entitlements are advancing, including a proposed Economic Development District that would fund public infrastructure for the site.
